This force, composed of Kurdish society as well as other ethnic and religious groups, came together and fought with unity and a shared belief—shaped by Apo’s ideas—centered on rights, freedom, identity, and the existence of women.

The YPJ is not only a military force, it is a social project and a philosophy of life built on the foundations of women’s freedom, equality, and democracy. At a time when our regions were occupied by ISIS and terror was imposed on the people, the YPJ stood at the forefront of this resistance and fought under extremely difficult conditions. With its dedication, sacrifice, and blood, it liberated many areas and opened the way for the restoration of life. The YPJ has taken revenge for the thousands of years of oppression of women against a system that has continuously pushed them into slavery.

At the same time, the YPJ has resisted the occupation policies of the Turkish state in the region. In many areas, YPJ women became symbols of resistance for women who refuse to live under a patriarchal, male-dominated mindset. Their resistance was not only military; it was a resistance for dignity, identity, and fundamental rights.

Now, as political conditions in Syria are changing and discussions about forming a new government are ongoing, it is necessary that the role and position of the YPJ be officially recognized. This force, which has made great sacrifices on the battlefield, should also have a status in the political sphere. Recognizing them as part of Syria’s official structure is not only a right, but a fundamental condition for maintaining peace and building a just society.

Failing to grant the YPJ a status would be an injustice to the sacrifices of women made for the liberation of all women in the Middle East and the world, and it would also pose a serious threat to Syria’s future. If forces built on democracy and equality are excluded from the political arena, their place may be taken by undemocratic, anti-social, and extremist forces.

Therefore, the YPJ should have a political status and identity in the new Syrian government as an official force, as a representative of women, and as a fundamental protector of society. This is not only a social demand, but also a matter of justice and a strategic necessity for a free and democratic future.

The resistance of women is the resistance of life. And this resistance must now be completed through recognition and the granting of status.

The women’s resistance in Rojava has become a source of strength and morale for women in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran. This influence has clearly manifested itself in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprisings of 2022 and 2026. For this reason, we as KJAR see the achievements of the YPJ as the achievements of all Kurdish and freedom-loving women around the world and express our support for securing the legitimate rights of women in the new Syria. Excluding the YPJ from the new Syrian system would mean excluding a free future for all women in the Middle East and the world. The YPJ is no longer just an army of Kurdish women; it has become a universal value. On this basis, we as KJAR once again express our support for the inclusion of the YPJ in the new governance system of Syria.

Revolutionary greetings,

KJAR Coordination

05.05.2026

The original statement was published on the KJAR-Website in Kurdish.
