{"id":805,"date":"2019-08-04T05:48:32","date_gmt":"2019-08-04T05:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eng.kongra-star.org\/?p=805"},"modified":"2022-12-18T12:19:38","modified_gmt":"2022-12-18T12:19:38","slug":"women-of-shengal-we-have-organized-to-avoid-further-massacres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kongra-star.org\/eng\/2019\/08\/04\/women-of-shengal-we-have-organized-to-avoid-further-massacres\/","title":{"rendered":"Women of Shengal: We have organized to avoid further massacres"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A delegation including Shengal Women\u2019s Units (YJS) fighters headed out to the Autonomous Administration zones from Shengal to attend a workshop in Rojava on the anniversary of the Shengal Massacre with the motto \u201cDefending Shengal women\u2019s honor is to defend the existence of women\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will be held on August 3, the anniversary of the massacre. Participant and Shengal Women\u2019s Movement member Ehlam Heci spoke to ANHA about the anniversary of the massacre and Shengal women\u2019s organizations. Ehlam said there have been many massacres against Yazidis in the past, and they witnessed the latest massacre by ISIS. Ehlam said thousands of Yazidis were killed, and abducted women and children were sold in slave markets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cPESHMERGA AND IRAQI FORCES DIDN\u2019T PROTECT US\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ehlam Heci said the peshmerga forces and Iraqi government didn\u2019t protect them when the gangs attacked:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth forces threw us to the gangs. It was only the HPG who responded to the people\u2019s call and came to Shengal. They took thousands of Yazidi families to safe areas. YPG and YPJ opened a humanitarian corridor in Rojava to ensure safe passage for the Yazidi people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWE ORGANIZED OURSELVES SO MASSACRES DON\u2019T HAPPEN AGAIN\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ehlam said Shengal was liberated by the efforts of YPG, YPJ and HPG forces: \u201cWe have since organized, especially in the military arena, so the Yazidi people won\u2019t be subjected to massacres again,\u201d said Ehlam and added that the women and children SDF rescued in operations in Northern and Eastern Syria were brought to Shengal and sent to Southern Kurdistan for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Ehlam said the KDP sent rescued Yazidis to Europe, in an attempt to divorce Shengal from its rightful owners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWE ORGANIZED SO THE SAME MASSACRES DON\u2019T HAPPEN AGAIN\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>YJS fighter Newal Raperin said they were happy to take part in the workshop in Northern and Eastern Syria for the women of Shengal. Newal said: \u201cNorthern and Eastern Syrian women have worked incredibly hard, and so we live without fear today.\u201d Newal added: \u201cYPG\/YPJ and HPG rescued us from the massacre and then we organized ourselves and formed a military force so such massacres don\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newal said the invading Turkish state\u2019s threats against the Yazidi people continue still: \u201cTurkey is the prime supporter of ISIS.
