Condemning the school massacre in Gaza: A call to end the war and achieve a just peace

With the war in Gaza continuing since October 7, 2023, today we witnessed another devastating attack in the ongoing wave of violence with the bombing of the Al-Tab’een school, which housed refugees from the war zones in eastern Gaza City. More than 100 civilians, including women and children, lost their lives in the attack. Attacks on civilians, women and children, in refugee shelters and schools are war crimes.

We condemn this massacre in the strongest possible terms. This war, like the recent attack on the school, has only brought pain and suffering to the people and threatens to spread to the entire Middle East region. The war in Gaza in no way serves the freedom of communities, it in no way serves the future of society and women; it only serves the interests of those in power and the purpose of protecting and expanding their power.

In this context, we as Kongra Star reaffirm our unconditional solidarity with the Palestinian people and the oppressed people fighting for freedom and justice. We women from Rojava, North and East Syria, who have built a democratic system for a multicultural society in the region, see hope for democratization and a peaceful solution in the women and democratic forces of the region. We are against war and massacres, because the current problems will never be solved this way, a peaceful solution can be achieved with the concept of sisterhood and brotherhood of peoples. The nation-state system has inflicted much suffering on the Palestinian and Jewish people both in history and today, which is why freedom is possible with the strength and struggle of the people and women with a democratic and peaceful understanding. Therefore, we call on all oppressed peoples and democratic forces and especially the women of the world to fight against this injustice and show unity.

Furthermore, the silence of the international community and the political parties against this war and the brutality that is increasing day by day and killing people must be broken. It is not war but working towards a just and lasting peace that is necessary for the conflict that has been going on for far too long. It is no longer acceptable for international institutions to turn a blind eye to these crimes against humanity and those responsible must be held accountable for this massacre.

Long live the struggle of peoples for peace, freedom and democracy
Long live the struggle of free women
