Urgent Call to Defend the Values of the Peoples and Alawite Community on the Coast

In the context of the complex war that has gripped Syria for over a decade, and within the framework of systematic discriminatory policies aimed at undermining the foundations of coexistence, we are witnessing a series of escalating violations, including killings and kidnappings, targeting members of the Alawite community in the Syrian coastal region. These crimes make no distinction between civilian and military, between woman and man, between child and elder.
These acts, which bear sectarian hallmarks and reflect the fingerprints of regional and local forces operating within the framework of a ‘special war’, are not isolated incidents. They are part of an organized system of violence designed to tear apart Syria’s diverse social fabric and revive civil war through sectarian and communal divisions.
As a revolutionary movement that believes women’s freedom is the foundation of a free society, we, at Kongra Star, see the targeting of the Alawite community today as a direct assault on the right to life and dignity, and a blow to the values of pluralism and equality. We affirm that there can be no peace in Syria without protection for all its components, and no genuine democracy without a fundamental rejection of all forms of sectarian, ethnic, or religious discrimination.
We have long defended the rights of women, peoples, and communities to determine their own destinies and build a shared future. Today, as always, we stand with all those facing oppression, extermination, and marginalization. We join our voices with the cries of pain and defiance coming from the Syrian coast in the face of murder, kidnapping, and humiliation.
Syria, whose peoples rose up for dignity and freedom, cannot be rebuilt on centralization and exclusion. Any project that seeks to reproduce the centralized nation-state is a betrayal of the sacrifices made by millions of Syrians. The future must be built on the foundations of radical democracy, recognition of all communities, and the active participation of women in leading society and politics as the surest guarantee against repeating the catastrophe.
From this standpoint, we issue an urgent appeal to all free women’s organizations around the world, to social and democratic movements, relief and human rights organizations, and to all peoples and living consciences who believe in solidarity and freedom, to stand with the Alawite community in the face of the ongoing crimes of murder, abduction, and repeated violations. What is happening today goes beyond daily suffering, it demands more than statements of condemnation. It requires humanitarian action and a moral stance to ensure protection and provide support in all forms: from raising free voices, to launching solidarity campaigns, to delivering urgent relief aid to the towns and villages of the coastal region suffering from poverty, marginalization, and fear of further targeting.
Let your support be a sign of our united struggle that the causes of women and peoples are indivisible, and that international solidarity is our path to stopping the crimes of regimes and occupying powers.
From North and East Syria, where cultures and communities intertwine, we extend our hand to the wounded Syrian coast and affirm our solidarity with you. Our struggle is one, and our destiny is shared.
