Statement on the attacks against the Druze community

“As-Suwayda Speaks with the Unyielding Voice of the Freedom Fighter Fawziya al-Shaarani”
We express our deep concern over the recent massacres in Sweida. The violent confrontations of the past two days have resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties—many of them women and children—due to unchecked violence and a breakdown in public security. This crisis is pushing the region toward civil war and threatens the very fabric of Syrian society.
We mourn the lives lost, especially the courageous freedom fighter Fawziya al-Shaarani, who defended her home and community against illegitimate armed groups. We extend our condolences to all Syrians.
We hold the interim authorities accountable for their failure to prevent the spread of sectarian and regional hate speech, which has fueled this escalation. They bear responsibility not only for enabling this atmosphere, but also for the direct assaults, particularly those targeting women—who have long borne the brunt of this war and are once again left without protection.
Kongra Star strongly condemns the attacks carried out by armed groups claiming to represent tribal constituencies. We reject their sectarian rhetoric and question the legitimacy of the justifications provided for these crimes.
We call for an immediate and transparent investigation into the events in Sweida. This city, which has historically welcomed the oppressed from across Syria during times of tyranny, does not deserve betrayal. True recognition of its sacrifices requires protecting it, not abandoning it to chaos.
We also warn against the ongoing media incitement targeting specific communities. We have seen similar dynamics in Syria’s coastal regions, where silence and inaction only deepened divisions and fueled hatred among fellow citizens.
We call on all national Syrian forces to adopt dialogue, reason, and a shared sense of responsibility. A genuine and inclusive national negotiation is essential to saving Syria from further descent into civil conflict and to laying the groundwork for a new phase of peace and stability—where every community and especially women have a voice in building a free, democratic Syria.
Finally, we call on the international community to break its silence and take urgent, concrete steps to stop this dangerous escalation. Civilians must be protected from violence, destruction, and instability. A genuine political path must be supported to rescue what remains of Syria.
