Kongra Star Condemns the Death Sentence of Sherife Mohammadi

The patriarchal Iranian regime consistently resorts to pressure, torture, and executions whenever it faces challenges. These oppressive measures are disproportionately directed at women who resist. Sherife Mohammadi is one such woman who has bravely fought for a democratic Iran. Despite her courageous struggle, the regime arrested her at her home on December 4, 2023. Following her detention, her first hearing took place on June 9, 2024, and on July 4, she was sentenced to death.

Today, the Iranian regime confirmed Sherife Mohammadi’s execution sentence. Kongra Star unequivocally condemns this brutal decision by a regime that has long been hostile to women. The clerical regime in Iran has intensified its attacks on women who raise their voices, especially since the Women, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî) uprising. In 2022, women took to the streets under this powerful slogan, broadening the fight for freedom. The regime views this movement as a threat and mobilizes all its resources to silence women’s voices.

The ongoing policies in Iran clearly demonstrate that unless the regime embraces democracy and respects the rights of women and all peoples, it will inevitably face collapse. The only path to survival for the regime is to acknowledge women’s freedom and the will of the people. The death sentence against Sherife Mohammadi exposes the regime’s deep insecurity and crisis. In desperation to suppress dissent, it resorts to such draconian measures. However, the regime should understand that women’s voices have never been silenced by oppression; on the contrary, their struggle is growing stronger and more widespread.

Kongra Star pledges to continue resisting these attacks on women until justice prevails. The Women, Life, Freedom Revolution inspires us deeply, and we will expand our support for the courageous women of Iran and Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan). We call on all women’s organizations committed to opposing patriarchy, sexism, and religious tyranny to stand united against the mullah regime’s oppressive practices. Together, let us raise our voices for the prisoners held in Evin, Qarchak, Lakan, and Kahrizak prisons and become a source of hope and strength for them.
