Statement launching the global women campaign

On behalf of Kongra Star and the Zenobia Women’s Association, we launch the Syrian Women’s Campaign under the slogan:
“With the unity of women, we build a free, democratic, and decentralized Syria.”
Syria is currently experiencing a critical transitional phase, where hopes for change intersect with attempts at exclusion, and settlement projects are renewed without ensuring women’s participation in decision-making.
Amid ongoing violence, the marginalization of women’s roles, and the weakening of their voices in political and social life, we see an urgent need to unite the voice of free women and transform women’s energy into a political force capable of shaping a just and democratic future for the country.
From this need, and from the will of Syrian women to resist and rebuild, we launch our women’s campaign today under the slogan:
“With the unity of women, we build a free, democratic, and decentralized Syria.”

In loyalty to the spirit of the activist Hevrin Khalaf, who, through her free will, embodied the meaning of responsible female leadership and the project of coexistence and equality among peoples, this campaign continues her path — a path that believed there can be no peace without women’s freedom, and no democracy without their active participation.
The campaign arises from the spirit of the Syrian Women’s Conference, held in Hasakah on September 20, 2025, initiated by Kongra Star and the Zenobia Women’s Association, with the participation of more than six hundred women from various ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds.
The conference affirmed that Syrian women are no longer subordinate, but have become active participants in shaping history, and that the building of a new Syria can only be achieved on the foundations of justice, equality, and women’s free will.
Our campaign is a collective act of struggle against policies of exclusion, against attempts to undermine women’s achievements, and against all forces seeking to return society to the old authoritarian, male-dominated order.
It is a campaign for a decentralized and democratic Syria, led by women and not shaped by external plans. Women at the heart of the democratic transition, not on its margins.

Campaign Objectives

  • Unite Syrian women from all backgrounds to build a broad national women’s coalition capable of influencing the country’s future.
  • Struggle for a democratic constitution that guarantees full gender equality and safeguards women’s political, economic, and social rights.
  • Defend the achievements of women in North and East Syria as a national gain belonging to all Syrians.
  • Confront violence and wars through women’s self-protection tools and enhance community awareness of justice and equality.
  • Ensure women’s representation of no less than 50% in all state institutions, administrations, and decision-making bodies.
  • Build a regional and international women’s solidarity network to amplify Syrian women’s voices globally and expand international support for their cause.

Campaign Program
The campaign runs from October 12 to November 12, 2025, and includes three interconnected phases:

🔸 Phase One – A Call from Syria (October 12)
Launch of the campaign from Qamishli and Raqqa, with an open call to the women of Syria and the world to unite around the demands of Syrian women.
Organizations and activists will participate with video clips and solidarity messages collected through Kongra Star and the Zenobia Women’s Gathering.
This day was chosen to commemorate the martyrdom of Hevrin Khalaf, a symbol of women’s free will.

🔸 Phase Two – Women’s Mobilization (October 18)
Organization of a series of activities, including:

International solidarity messages from women’s movements around the world, shared in support of Syrian women.

Women’s dialogue seminars addressing:
– The reality of Syria and the demands of women and its various communities.
– The concept of women self-defense from a Jineolojî perspective and the experience of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
– The experience of building a democratic society in North and East Syria as a model of liberation.
– The experiences of women in Palestine, Balochistan, India, and Latin America in the struggle for freedom and peace.

🔸 Phase Three – Closing Events (November 12)
Conclusion of the campaign with a comprehensive presentation of all produced materials (videos, statements, photos, articles) sent to international organizations, parliaments, United Nations agencies, and human rights groups, calling for support of the Syrian women’s project to build a just, democratic homeland.

With this campaign, we affirm that women’s struggle is not a partial demand, but the key to radical change in Syria.

Without women leading, will not be possible to build a democratic Syria.
