Kongra Star press release about the attacks in Deir Hafer

On the night of September 20, 2025, in front of the village connected to Der Hafer Um Tine, an airstrike was carried out by the armed forces affiliated with the Damascus government. In this attack, a total of 7 civilians were killed (mostly women, including one infant and one child), and 4 civilians were injured.

From the beginning, we, as the women’s movement Kongra Star, extend our condolences to the families and relatives of those who were killed, and to the entire people of Syria. We also wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

In this attack, once again, our people — civilians — were directly targeted. This is part of a long period in which such attacks by the armed forces of the Damascus government are taking place. At a time when we are striving for the unity of Syria’s peoples, for peace, and for the advancement of important work toward Syrian democracy, such attacks openly demonstrate hostility to these efforts, and we strongly condemn them.

On the very same day that the conference of Syrian women’s organizations was being held, such an attack was carried out in which the majority of those killed were also women. This was a deliberate attempt to strike at the efforts for the unity of the peoples and the women of Syria.

It is clear that for a long time now the peoples of Syria have been making efforts for a democratic and peaceful life, and within this framework many meetings, dialogues, and gatherings have been held. Such attacks by the Damascus government show clearly that its aim is to confront these dialogues and problem-solving attempts with war.

Whether this attack was planned by the Damascus government or carried out directly by its affiliated armed forces, the Damascus government must be held strictly accountable and must bring the perpetrators to justice. We, as the organization Kongra Star, will insist on accountability for this massacre.

In particular, the women and children who were victims of this brutal attack must be at the forefront in demanding justice. Let everyone know that the united strength of women will not allow such attacks to pass, and will not allow those who carried out this attack to remain unpunished. We will establish spaces of struggle and women’s unity everywhere in Syria.

We call upon women all across Syria to strengthen their struggle against this dominant, jihadist system and to fortify their unity.

We also call upon all the peoples of Syria to rise against these attacks, to stand up, and to demonstrate with determination a strong response of peoples’ unity against the mentality of the enemy.

Once again, we declare to the public: silence in the face of such attacks on civilians is complicity in this crime.

Greetings and Respect,
Coordination of Kongra Star
