Our newsletter for the month of June 2024Our newsletter for the month of June 2024 informs about Kongra Star activities during harvest time, current struggles and actions against violence against women and girls as well as the commemoration of the anniversary of the murder of the three Kongra Starmembers Zehra Berkel, Hebûn Mele Xelîl and Emina Weysî.
June is harvest time in north-east Syria and so the economic committee and the women
working in the autonomous cooperatives were particularly active this month. At the same
time, drought, climate change and water consumption are ongoing issues in the region,
which were discussed in a panel on the Day against Desertification and Drought that
Kongra Star participated in. The enormous problems arising from Turkey‘s water policy
were also discussed.
Linked to Turkey and its power politics is the enormous violence against women and
girls in the areas occupied by Turkey. The organization Sara commented on the recent
events and denounced the violence that take place under Turkish occupation. As well as
condemning the international community‘s silence on the atrocities.
