Seminar on 25 November at Berxwedan Camp in Shehba
The Berxwedan camp in the northern Syrian canton of Shehba is home to people displaced by Turkish invasion troops from Afrin. Yesterday the camp hosted a seminar on 25 November, the international day for the elimination of violence against women, in which many women took part. After a minute’s silence for the fallen, Şaziye Ibrahim from the women’s movement Kongreya Star began an analysis of the different forms of violence against women. Afterwards spoke Leyla Ibiş, also from Kongreya Star, and explained: “The real goal of this seminar is to develop the awareness of women and thus prevent violence against women in the beginning”.
Women’s councils throughout Kurdistan use this special day, on which worldwide protests against violence against women are held, to inform villages, communities and districts about patriarchal violence and to develop common counter-strategies.
